The Recycling Partnership is a rapidly growing, action-focused nonprofit, overhauling the U.S recycling system and activating a circular economy for packaging. We work on the ground with thousands of communities to transform underperforming recycling programs and tackle circular economy challenges. We work with companies to make their packaging more circular and help them meet their climate and sustainability goals. And we work with government to develop policy solutions that will address the systemic needs of our residential recycling system.

The Chief Marketing and Communications Officer reports to the CEO and is a critical member of The Partnership team. Responsible for designing and implementing an organization-wide marketing and communications strategy, the CMCO will build, maintain, and communicate The Recycling Partnerships brand, differentiators, initiatives, culture, and core values to our external audience. The CMCO oversees the communications and marketing staff and directs the strategic and tactical message development. They will provide strategic direction on communications outreach efforts using a range of diverse platforms including social, press, print, and stage presence. Bringing with them strong, existing relationships with media outlets and reporters, they will facilitate earned media opportunities for The Partnership. As part of The Partnership’s C-suite, the CMCO will be a communications partner at the strategic leadership level.
Responsibilities and Skillsets:
Strategic Messaging Planning and Execution: Responsible for establishing and delivering a proactive and measurable strategic communications plan that aligns with the organization’s strategic plan.
Strategic Consulting and Planning: Responsible for managing the reputation of the Recycling Partnership brand and ensuring our core values are reflected internally and externally.
Team Leadership: Will coordinate across teams to engage our behavior change and public engagement programs, corporate engagement, and policymaker outreach work. Will work closely with the internal and external content creation teams to deliver a coordinated message that drives the strategic focus of the organization.
Internal Communications: As the Recycling Partnership continues to grow, will ensure coordinated employee engagement.
Experience with Diverse Platforms: Must have experience establishing and delivering strategic communications, marketing, and outreach plans including social, press, print, and on stage.
Public Affairs: Must have demonstrated understanding and experience working across all levels of government so that policy at the macro level facilitates change at the micro-level.
Media Relations: Must have outstanding relationships with news outlets and reporters to facilitate earned media opportunities.
Strong Collaboration and Problem-Solving Skills: Must be a natural team builder, excellent at prioritizing, and skilled at understanding the nuances of corporate, community, and environmental NGO perspectives.
Keen Understanding of Audience: Ability to understand public and private sector audiences and shape messages appropriately.
Additional Ideal Skillsets: Experience in public-private partnerships, UX & UI, data visualization a plus. Accreditation in Public Relations encouraged.
