Mari Long, Community Program Manager

she/her/hers

Mari has spent her career in the waste and recycling industry. She is shocked by the sheer volume of materials going into our landfills every day and most of them could be recycled! How can this be and how can we make this right? Mari found her mission in helping communities, universities, and businesses with waste diversion and recycling. She kicked off the University of Kentucky’s “All-in-One” recycling campus wide, worked with 41 Central Ohio communities in implementing programs such as rolling out recycling carts for all residents, reducing recycling contamination, solid waste and recycling contracts, and multi-family projects. As a Community Program Manager, she can be part of improving communities recycling programs across the U.S. and see the impact spread!

Why I Care About Recycling
Recycling matters and all of us should have access to it. We should normalize the 3 R’s and reduce, reuse, and recycle. Recycling should be “what we do” in our everyday life. Landfills should be the last resort for our stuff.

Personal Passions and Interests
Living on a farm in rural southern Ohio, Mari is happiest being at home. She is married with 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren. Since she loves her work, every day is a good day! Her interests are enjoying a good glass of wine, long walks, murder mysteries, and spending time with her family.
