What’s Happening
The Recycling Partnership (The Partnership) is hitting a milestone with its 100th facility grant, supercharging polypropylene recovery at RecyclingWorks, Inc. in Elkhart, Indiana. Machine sortation will replace hand sorting, boosting polypropylene capture, shrinking landfill impact, and preparing for rising regional demand.
Why It Matters
In facility after facility, The Partnership has funded improvements that drive real shifts in the national recycling system. This happens through targeted investments through material-specific initiatives such as The Partnership’s Polypropylene Recycling Coalition. The coalition’s work in Elkhart and across the country ensure that #5 drink cups, yogurt containers, and other packaging are kept out of landfills.
What’s Next
The investment in RecyclingWorks sets the stage for expanded polypropylene recycling in the region as the population grows.
“The grant provided to our facility by The Recycling Partnership will enable us to install additional optical sortation equipment to achieve higher recovery rate and purity,” said Daniel Zelaya, Plant Manager at RecyclingWorks Inc. “This will enable us to service our local communities plus any new municipal contracts we take on in the future. Automation is the future for MRFs, and we are excited to partner with The Partnership!”
