Roanoke, VA transitioned from a dual stream bin-based collection program to a single stream cart-based program. In 2015, the City:
- Rolled out carts to every household in the community
- Established a weekly, automated recycling collection cycle
- Equipped carts and trucks with RFID data-collection technology to track participation
The Recycling Partnership supported Roanoke with grant funding for their education and outreach to residents. In addition, the City received a customized education campaign and operational assistance to support the cart roll out.
