Senior Vice President of Sustainability at the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI)

Member of the Board since May 2022, Scott Breen is Senior Vice President of Sustainability at the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), which represents U.S. metal can manufacturers and their suppliers. Scott’s accomplishments at CMI include spearheading the effort to establish and achieve aluminum beverage can recycling rate targets, advocating in several states for well-designed recycling refund (i.e., deposit) systems, and co-leading with another association the Aerosol Recycling Initiative. Scott’s roles prior to CMI were Associate Manager of the Sustainability and Circular Economy Program at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation (Chamber Foundation) and attorney-adviser at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. At the Chamber Foundation, Scott led the Beyond 34 recycling initiative through a pilot and then expansion. Scott also explores various aspects of sustainability as creator and co-host of the Sustainability Defined podcast. Sustainability Defined’s monthly episodes reach thousands of listeners across more than 100 countries and all 50 states.
