Kyarah Barton is a passionate advocate for environmental justice and stewardship. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Spelman College, Kyarah champions recognizing the intersections of environmentalism and social justice. She is heavily involved within her local community in Atlanta, Georgia, where she collaborates with students of the Atlanta University Center and community leaders to advocate for more sustainable and equitable communities in the Westside of Atlanta.

Why I Care About Recycling and a Circular Economy

“I believe that equitable access to recycling is such an important aspect of environmental justice. Understanding the historic legacies of people of color in the environmental justice movement further strengthens our commitment to advocating for a circular economy and creating a more inclusive space in the recycling industry and beyond.”

Personal Passions and Interests

After work, you can often find Kyarah cleaning her neighborhood and storm drains with community members. Outside of environmental advocacy, Kyarah enjoys creative hobbies like cooking, sewing, and screen printing. She also loves books and is always searching for something new to read.
